Wars Will Be Fought ...
Great article here from the Smithsonian about beach plastic and the work of Richard and Judith Lang
“Our hope is to make these artworks so valuable,” Judith jokes, “that wars will be fought to clean up these beaches.”

Beach-lovin' Dog
On Annestown beach, a couple had a really energetic dog. He was running backwards and forwards and barking and yapping, delighted to be on the beach. They left the beach but about 5 minutes later he ran up to me and then ran away again. When I got back to the car park, the couple were still there. The husband was in the car, the wife stood in the car park and the dog was still on the beach. 'He won't get in the car' she said.

More Drugs
Atenolol is a selective β1 receptor antagonist, a drug belonging to the group of beta blockers (sometimes written β-blockers), a class of drugs used primarily in cardiovascular diseases. Introduced in 1976, atenolol was developed as a replacement for propranolol in the treatment of hypertension. It works by slowing down the heart and reducing its workload. Unlike propranolol, atenolol does not pass through the blood–brain barrier thus avoiding various central nervous system side effects.[1]
Atenolol is one of the most widely used β-blockers in the United Kingdom and was once the first-line treatment for hypertension.[citation needed] The role for β-blockers in hypertension was downgraded in June 2006 in the United Kingdom to fourth-line, as they perform less appropriately or effectively than newer drugs, particularly in the elderly

Washed In Or Dropped?
Nifedipine (brand names Adalat CC and Procardia, according to FDA Orange Book) is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that primarily blocks L-type calcium channels.[1] Its main uses are as an antianginal (especially in Prinzmetal's angina) and antihypertensive, although a large number of other indications have recently been found for this agent, such as Raynaud's phenomenon, premature labor, and painful spasms of the esophagus such as in cancer and tetanus patients. It is also commonly used for the small subset of pulmonary hypertension patients whose symptoms respond to calcium channel blockers. It is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, a list of the most important medication needed in a basic health system.[2]

Welcome!
Welcome to The Beach Botherer
The Beach Botherer is dedicated to my true vocation, beachcombing on the beaches of County Waterford, (and sometimes further afield)
This is a companion blog to my main blog, the 'a' word, where you'll also find some beach-related posts
To begin with, here is a fabulous little film about the beachcombers of Texel, Holland by Sam Walkerdine. You can find an excellent article about the making of this film here
