Chris Jordan - Midway

Midway is a photographic project by Chris Jordan, featuring his work cataloguing dead baby albatrosses from the Midway atoll in the Pacific ocean.  As you can see in the photographs, the albatrosses choke to death on plastic rubbish from the ocean which is mistakenly fed to them as food by their parents.  It is truly shocking to see bottle tops, lighters and other rubbish in the stomachs of these birds.  Another reason to take every bit of plastic off our beaches.

You can check out more work and get more information this project on his website here http://www.chrisjordan.com/gallery/midway/#CF000313%2018x24

Pink

Textiles are often washed up on Ballydowane and so far this one is my favourite.  I am thinking of sewing all the various pieces together and then making a dress (for display only of course).  This would definitely have to be part of the bodice.  The texture is wonderful, all thanks to the sea of course.

Seagulls

I love hearing seagulls on the beach.  They call a lot on Ballydowane as they circle over the cliffs.

During stormy weather, they come inland to the fields around the house and then, to hear their calling, so reminiscent of the seaside, and yet to see fields and mountains, is surreal and magical at the same time.

Tide

Back at Ballydowane

I was in England for the first week in March but I'm back now and headed straight for windy, rainy Ballydowane.  Looking very clean but found some treasures waiting for me.  There was also a small cliff collapse at the right hand side of the beach and rocks from an earlier collapse had been uncovered by the stormy weather waves.
